How much candle wax do you need?
No need to guess. Use this simple method to determine the exact right amount.
Fill your empty candle holder with water up to the desired fill height. Measure the number of milliliters and subtract 10% — this gives you the required weight in grams of candle wax.
Example: 500 ml of water in the candle holder → you need ±450 grams of candle wax. Always subtract 10% of the water volume to compensate for the difference in density.
How many wicks do I need?
The diameter of your candle holder determines the number of wooden wicks. Use the table below as a guide.
| Candle holder diameter | Number of wicks |
|---|---|
| 6 – 8 cm | 1 wick |
| 8 – 10 cm | 2 wicks |
| 10 – 12 cm | 3 wicks |
| 12 – 16 cm | 4 wicks |
| 16 – 20 cm | 5 wicks |
| 20 cm or more | 6 wicks or more |
Always distribute the wicks evenly across the surface for stable and even burning.
Step by step
01 Melt the wax
Place the closed refill pouch in a pot of warm water at ±60°C. Let the wax melt gently using the bain-marie principle — without boiling, without rush.
This typically takes 20 to 30 minutes. You will get a liquid, even mass without loss of quality.
02 Pour the wax
Briefly run the refill pouch under cold water to cool the outside, and dry it thoroughly. Put on your gloves, twist open the cap, and pour slowly and evenly into the candle holder.
Leave about 3 cm of space at the top. Pour gently to avoid air bubbles.
03 Place the wick(s)
Wait until the wax starts to solidify at the edges and bottom — the top may still be soft. Click each wooden wick into a metal wick clip and place them upright in the candle holder.
For a single wick, center it precisely. For multiple wicks, distribute them evenly across the surface.
04 Cure & pour the second layer
Let the candle rest for at least 6 to 8 hours at room temperature. Do not move the holder during curing. As the wax cools, shrinkage holes will form around the wicks — this is completely normal.
Re-liquefy the remaining wax (see step 1) and pour it gently over the shrinkage holes. This second layer will harden faster because the first layer has already cooled.
05 Finish & light
Trim the wick(s) to about 5 mm above the candle surface. A shorter wick gives a cleaner, calmer flame and extends burn time.
Your candle is ready to light. Enjoy the result — with a clear conscience.
